ihih ايهيه
Tunisian Derja · interjection
“ihih” (ايهيه) is an interjection in Tunisian Derja meaning yeah, yes (agreement).
Meanings
- yeah, yes (agreement)
- well, oh well (hesitation, resignation)
Usage
Ihih is a drawn-out, informal form of "yes" (ih). It's used in speech to agree with what the other person says, often in a relaxed or weary tone, a bit like "yeah, yeah." Placed at the start or end of a sentence, it also marks hesitation or resignation, close to "well" or "oh well": you let it drop before changing the subject or wrapping up without emphasis. Intonation matters: said slowly and drawn out, it can express doubt or lack of enthusiasm rather than real agreement. Strictly informal register, to avoid in formal contexts.
Example
إيهيه، فهمتك، نشوفو غدوة.
ihih, fhemtek, nchoufou ghodwa.
“Yeah, I got you, we'll see tomorrow.”
