Meanings
- hello, hi (Amazigh greeting)
Usage
"Azul" is the Amazigh greeting, notably Kabyle, widespread in Algeria, including among Arabic speakers. It is said when approaching someone, often to mark an Amazigh identity or solidarity, or out of simple friendliness. It combines readily with "fellawen", "hello to you (plural)", or "fellak", "hello to you (singular)". On social media, it often opens a message addressed to people from Kabylie or the Aurès. The register is neutral and cordial. It is not a religious formula like "salam".
