jiya7a جياحة
Algerian Darja · noun
“jiya7a” (جياحة) is a noun in Algerian Darja meaning silliness, childish behaviour.
Meanings
- silliness, childish behaviour
- foolish or low-quality content
Usage
Jiyaha refers to silly, childish behaviour unworthy of a sensible adult. It is often used to criticise videos, series or content seen as empty, alongside tbahlil ("nonsense") or bahdala. The word is related to the adjective jayah, "fool, useless", very common as a reproach. It is informal and slightly contemptuous, without being vulgar. It is mostly used to judge a thing or a behaviour: people say "hadi jiyaha" rather than targeting a person directly. Calling someone jayah, on the other hand, can hurt.
Example
بركاو من هاد الجياحة، كبرتو!
barkaw men had el jiya7a, kbertou!
“Stop this nonsense, you're grown up now!”
