3awed عاود

Moroccan Darija · verb

“3awed” (عاود) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to repeat, say again.

Meanings

  1. to repeat, say again
  2. to do again (+ verb)
  3. to tell, recount (to someone)

Usage

3awed is a very frequent verb. On its own, it means "to repeat": 3awed ach gelti, "repeat what you said". Followed by another verb, it marks the repetition of an action and corresponds to the English prefix "re-": 3awed 3eyyet liya, "call me back". With liya and an object, it takes the sense of "to tell": 3awed liya kolchi, "tell me everything". It is also the base of the adverb 3awtani, "again". Note: the gloss "horse" found in the sources belongs to a different word, 3ewd. It has nothing to do with this verb.
