9ra قرا
Moroccan Darija · verb
“9ra” (قرا) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning study, go to school.
Meanings
- study, go to school
- read
- recite (the Quran)
Usage
Qra (often written 9ra) means both "to read" and "to study, to attend school". It is conjugated qrit (I read) in the past and kanqra in the present. "Fin kat9ra?" is understood as "Where do you study?". Do not confuse it with the doubled-r form qerra (spellings 9rra, 9erra), which means "to teach, to make someone study": "kay9erri f l-lycée" means "he teaches at the lycée". For the Quran, qra refers to chanted recitation. The corresponding noun is qraya (studies).
Example
رجع قرا مزيان
rja3 9ra mzyan
