bard بارد
Moroccan Darija · adjective
“bard” (بارد) is an adjective in Moroccan Darija meaning cold (weather, object, water).
Meanings
- cold (weather, object, water)
- cool, chilled (drink)
- dull, unfunny (person, joke)
Usage
Bard is the basic adjective for cold. It is used for the weather (ljaw bard, "it's cold"), for water or a drink (ma bard, "cold water") and for a dish that has gone cold. The feminine is barda and the plural is bardin. For a person or a joke, it takes a pejorative figurative sense: someone who is bard lacks humor or wit, and a barda joke falls flat. Watch out: to say "I'm cold", you don't use bard but a construction with the noun, such as fiya lberd.
Example
الجو بارد اليوم
ljaw bard lyoma
“It's cold today.”
