Meanings

  1. that (feminine, distant demonstrative)
  2. that one (feminine)

Usage

Dik is the feminine singular demonstrative for something distant. The corresponding masculine is dak and the plural is dok. Before a noun, it is used with the article: dik ssel3a (that merchandise), dik lmra (that woman). Used alone, it means "that one". It appears in time expressions, such as dik ssa3a (at that moment, then). Depending on context, it can also serve as a simple "the" of recall, for something already known. Do not confuse it with the near demonstrative hadi (this one, feminine) or with the Classical Arabic word dik (rooster).
