jawab جواب

Moroccan Darija · noun

“jawab” (جواب) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning answer, response.

Meanings

  1. answer, response
  2. letter, mail

Usage

Jawab, often pronounced jwab, means "answer": 3tini jwab, "give me an answer". In Morocco the word also traditionally means a letter sent by post: sifet lik jwab, "I sent you a letter". This sense is somewhat dated among young people, who use messages more. The plural is ajwiba or jwabat. For a quick spoken reply, you can also use the verb jawb, "to answer". Do not confuse it with jwab meaning the answer to an exam question, which is the same word.
