khamsin خمسين

Moroccan Darija · numeral

“khamsin” (خمسين) is a numeral in Moroccan Darija meaning fifty.

Meanings

  1. fifty

Usage

Khamsin is the number fifty. It comes before the noun, which stays singular: khamsin derhem, khamsin 3am. It combines with units using w: wahed w khamsin. For tens beyond one hundred, say miya w khamsin. In talk about money, confusion between dirhams, rials and centimes is common: alf ryal corresponds to fifty dirhams, and large sums are often given in centimes, as in khamsin melyoun.
