settmya ستمية

Moroccan Darija · numeral

“settmya” (ستمية) is a numeral in Moroccan Darija meaning six hundred.

Meanings

  1. six hundred

Usage

Settmya is the number six hundred. It is formed from stt (six) and mya (hundred), fused into a single word, like tsse3mya (nine hundred) or tmenmya (eight hundred). It follows the same pattern as the other hundreds: it goes directly before a singular noun, "settmya dirham". The pitfall concerns money: people often count in rials or centimes. So "settmya ryal" is worth only thirty dirhams. Depending on the context, "settmya" on its own can also mean six hundred francs (centimes), so six dirhams. If in doubt, check the unit.

Example

شريت هاد الصباط بستمية درهم

chrit had sbbat b settmya dirham

“I bought these shoes for six hundred dirhams.”
