“tanya” (تانية) is an adjective in Moroccan Darija meaning second (feminine).

Meanings

  1. second (feminine)
  2. the other (feminine)
  3. again

Usage

Tanya is the feminine of tani, "second". It agrees with a feminine noun and comes after it: lforsa ttanya, "the second chance", ttabqa ttanya, "the second floor". With the article, it often means "the other": lbent ttanya, "the other girl". Like tani, it can also mean "again" after a verb. The expression marra tanya, "another time", is very common. The word belongs to the everyday register. Pitfall for an English speaker: do not forget the article on the adjective when the noun is definite.
