twa3d تواعد
Moroccan Darija · verb
“twa3d” (تواعد) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning arrange to meet.
Meanings
- arrange to meet
- make a mutual promise
Usage
Twa3ed is a reciprocal verb: it is used mostly in the plural, for example twa3dna ("we arranged to meet"). It is often followed by a verb in the present: twa3dna ntla9aw ("we agreed to meet up"). The complement is built with m3a: twa3dt m3ah. The English gloss "date" can be misleading. The verb refers first of all to an agreed meeting, whatever the context, and not specifically to a romantic date. It can also mean "to make a mutual promise". The register is neutral.
Example
تواعدنا نتلاقاو فالقهوة
twa3dna ntla9aw f l9ahwa
“We arranged to meet at the café.”
