Tunisian Derja · adjective
“chab3an” (شبعان) is an adjective in Tunisian Derja meaning full, having eaten enough.
Meanings
- full, having eaten enough
- sated, lacking nothing
Usage
Chab3an is said of someone who has eaten enough. It is the usual answer when you are offered more food at the table: "la, chab3an, ya3tik essa7a". The feminine is chab3ana and the plural chab3anin. By extension, the word describes a person who has never lacked anything, often with a critical nuance: the one who is full is contrasted with the one who is hungry to say that the first does not understand the second. The opposite is ji3an. The corresponding verb is chba3 ("to be full").
Example
لا يعيشك، شبعان
la ya3ichek, chab3an
“No thank you, I'm full.”
