menba3d منبعد

Tunisian Derja · adverb

“menba3d” (منبعد) is an adverb in Tunisian Derja meaning then, afterwards.

Meanings

  1. then, afterwards
  2. later

Usage

Mba3d (or min ba3d) marks succession in time: "then", "after that", "later". It is used on its own, without a complement, often after w ("and") to link two actions: w mba3d. It is very common in speech and online writing, in all informal registers. Pitfall for an English speaker: it is not a preposition. To say "after the meal", use ba3d followed by the noun (ba3d el-ftour), not mba3d. It can also postpone an action, like "we'll see later": mba3d nchoufou.

Example

نتعشاو ومنبعد نخرجو

net3achaw w mba3d nokhrjou

“We have dinner and then we go out.”
