Usage
Ahder is the imperative of the verb "hder", the most widely used verb for "to speak" in Algeria: "nahder" ("I speak"), "tahder" ("you speak"), "hdert" ("I spoke"). It is used to invite someone to speak or express themselves: "ahder m3aya" ("talk to me"), "ahder bel 3arbiya" ("speak in Arabic"). "Ahder b chwiya" means "speak slowly". The derived noun "hedra" means speech or discussion. Unlike in Standard Arabic, where the root suggests waste or idle chatter, hder is neutral in Darja and simply means "to speak".
