aktar اكتر

Algerian Darja · adverb

“aktar” (اكتر) is an adverb in Algerian Darja meaning more, further.

Meanings

  1. more, further
  2. the most

Usage

Aktar, often shortened to ktar, is the spoken form of the comparative "more". The spelling with t reflects the common Algerian pronunciation of classical th. It is used in the construction "aktar men" (more than): "aktar men rouwa3a" means "more than great". Placed before a noun, it expresses the superlative: "aktar wa7ed" means "the one who… the most". Used alone, it means "more". In writing, it often appears in sentences mixing darja and Standard Arabic. It should not be confused with bezzaf, which means "a lot" and is not a comparative.
