Algerian Darja · noun
“cherik” (شريك) is a noun in Algerian Darja meaning partner (in business).
Meanings
- partner (in business)

Usage
Cherik mainly means a partner in a business or project: hna chrika fel-hanout (we are partners in the shop). The feminine is cherika and the plural is chorakaa or chrika. It is also found in the religious formula wahdou la cherika lah (He is one, without partner), recited in Classical Arabic. In everyday life, the word points to a relationship of interest rather than friendship; for a friend one says sahbi. It is little used for a romantic partner, a sense that belongs more to journalistic register.
