Algerian Darja · pronoun

“hadik” (هديك) is a pronoun in Algerian Darja meaning that one, that ... (feminine).

Meanings

  1. that one, that ... (feminine)
  2. that, that thing

Usage

Hadik is the feminine demonstrative for distance, the counterpart of the masculine hadak. It is used alone as a pronoun ("that one") or before a definite noun: hadik el-mra (that woman), hadik ettriq (that road). It can also be placed after the noun: ettriq hadik. It refers to something distant in space or already mentioned in the conversation, often with a nuance of "you know, the one we're talking about". The plural is hadouk. Do not confuse it with hadi (this one), which refers to what is near. The form hadik is mostly central and eastern; hadika is also heard.
