jdida جديدة

“jdida” (جديدة) is an adjective in Algerian Darja meaning new (feminine of jdid).

Meanings

  1. new (feminine of jdid)
  2. brand-new, never used

Usage

Jdida is the feminine of jdid, "new, brand-new". The adjective comes after the noun and agrees with it: "tomobil jdida", "a brand-new car"; the plural is jdad. It covers both "new" (recent, different) and "brand-new" (not yet used), which French distinguishes. In Algeria, the first vowel often drops: it is pronounced jdida, sometimes djdida. The gloss "El Jadida" refers to a city name and does not correspond to the everyday use of the adjective.
