jenna جنة
Algerian Darja · noun
“jenna” (جنة) is a noun in Algerian Darja meaning paradise.
Meanings
- paradise
- very beautiful place, wonder
Usage
Jenna primarily means paradise, in a pervasive religious register: "Allah yerhmou w ydakhlou jenna" ("may God have mercy on him and admit him to paradise") is a common condolence formula. Figuratively, it is used for a very pleasant place, as in "jenna fouq l-ard" ("a paradise on earth"). It should not be confused with jnan, which means a garden or an orchard. The plural jnane or jennat remains rare in speech.
