khodra خضرة
Algerian Darja · noun
“khodra” (خضرة) is a noun in Algerian Darja meaning vegetables.
Meanings
- vegetables
- produce (market fruit and veg)
Usage
Khodra refers to vegetables taken collectively: you do not say "a khodra" for a single vegetable. It appears in "souq el khodra" (vegetable market) and "khoddar" (vegetable seller). In everyday use, the word can include the fruit and vegetables sold at the market. Beware of confusion with "khedra", the feminine of "khder" (green), which is written the same in Arabic but pronounced differently: "chejra khedra" means a green tree. A soup or dish with vegetables can be called "b el khodra".

روح شري الخضرة من السوق
rouh chri lkhodra men souq
“Go buy the vegetables from the market.”
