maghribi مغربي
Algerian Darja · adjective
“maghribi” (مغربي) is an adjective in Algerian Darja meaning Moroccan (nationality).
Meanings
- Moroccan (nationality)
- a Moroccan (noun)
- the Moroccan, Moroccan
Usage
Maghribi means "Moroccan" or "a Moroccan". The feminine is maghribiya and the plural is mgharba or maghariba. The word is used as an adjective (lmakla lmaghribiya, Moroccan cuisine) or as a noun (wahed maghribi, a Moroccan). Pitfall: in Algeria, maghribi refers to Morocco and not to the Maghreb as a whole. For the Maghreb, people more often say lmaghrib l3arabi or use the French word directly. The register is neutral.
