Meanings

Usage
Makanch menha literally means "there isn't any of it." It is used to deny a rumour, reject a claim seen as untrue, or express disbelief at an implausible piece of news. The register is informal and spoken. It is used on its own, often as an immediate reply, or after the reported statement. The variant makach menha is also heard. Depending on intonation, it can be categorical ("that's a lie") or amused ("no way!"). Pitfall for a French speaker: it does not express a lack of something, as in "there's none left." The meaning is always a denial.
