Mentouj is the usual form in Algeria for "product". It is heard in commerce, advertising, product presentation videos and exchanges between customers. The expression mentouj jazayri ("Algerian product") is very common, especially in the context of "buying local". The plural is mentoujat. In casual conversation, the French word produit is also used, often pronounced in an Algerian way. The register is neutral, neither colloquial nor learned. The word can also refer to agricultural production, as in mentouj l'fellah ("what the farmer produces").
