“safar” (سفر) is a noun in Algerian Darja meaning travel, journey.
Meanings
- travel, journey
Usage
Safar means travel, especially a long trip or one abroad: rahou fe safar (he is away travelling). The word is common in Algeria, alongside the verb sefer / ysafer (to travel) and the noun msafer (traveller). In conversation you also often hear the French "voyage" and the expression "dir voyage". The formula triba safar or bslama f safar is not fixed; to wish someone a good trip, people rather say trig ssalama. Neutral register. The sense "to cover, to link" given by some definitions belongs to another verb and does not match common usage.
