thammak ثماك

Algerian Darja · adverb

“thammak” (ثماك) is an adverb in Algerian Darja meaning there, over there.

Meanings

  1. there, over there

Usage

Thammak means "over there" and refers to a place away from the speaker. It is used mainly in the east of the country (Tébessa, Constantine, Annaba, Sétif), whereas in Algiers people rather say lhih or temma. It is found after verbs of motion or location: rouh thammak (go over there), ana kount thammak (I was over there). The similar form thamma has the same meaning. An Algiers speaker understands it, but it immediately signals an eastern regional origin.
