wafi وافي
Algerian Darja · adjective
“wafi” (وافي) is an adjective in Algerian Darja meaning complete, sufficient.
Meanings
- complete, sufficient
- abundant
Usage
Wafi describes something that is complete and lacks nothing. It is found mainly in the phrase "kafi wafi" or "chafi kafi wafi", meaning that an explanation, a meal or a piece of work is complete and satisfactory ("ch'ra7 kafi wafi", a clear and complete explanation). Used on its own, it remains rather formal and close to Standard Arabic. In everyday speech, bezzaf is preferred for abundance. It can also describe a loyal person who keeps their word, but this use is more literary.
