Algerian Darja · verb
“wakher” (وخر) is a verb in Algerian Darja meaning move over, step aside.
Meanings
- move over, step aside
- to move something aside
Usage
Wakher is the imperative of the verb wakhkhar, "to move aside, move away". It is used mainly as an order, to tell someone to move over or let you pass. The tone is direct and informal, sometimes abrupt. Between friends, it can also be a tease, meaning "forget it, get lost". One says wakher men triqi ("get out of my way") and wakhrou in the plural. With an object, the verb means "to move, set aside", as in wakhkhar tabla ("move the table"). With a stranger or an elderly person, a more polite expression is better.
Example
وخر من الطريق خليني نفوت!
wakher mel triq, khallini nfout !
