wakkel وكل
Algerian Darja · verb
“wakkel” (وكل) is a verb in Algerian Darja meaning to feed, make eat.
Meanings
- to feed, make eat
- to feed an animal
Usage
Wakkel is the causative of kla (to eat). It means "to make someone eat" or "to give food". It is used for a child, a sick person, guests or animals: wakkel ddrari, wakkel lmal. The verb is conjugated normally (nwakkel, ywakkel, wakkelt). It is often found in expressions of hospitality or generosity. It should not be confused with twakkel 3la Allah (to put one's trust in God), which comes from a different root. In writing, the spelling وكل is also confused with "w kol" (and every), which causes frequent false positives in online texts.
