wrak وراك
Algerian Darja · preposition
“wrak” (وراك) is a preposition in Algerian Darja meaning behind you.
Meanings
- behind you
- and you are (w + rak)
Usage
Wrak corresponds first of all to wra ("behind") followed by the suffix -k ("you"): rah wrak, "he is behind you". In writing, the same spelling is very often used for w rak, that is, "and" followed by rak, the second-person presentational particle: w rak fi bali, "and you are in my thoughts". Only context can decide between the two readings. The definition "what's wrong with you" found elsewhere does not match common usage. In the feminine, wrak is also used, with a slightly different pronunciation, or w raki.
Example
رد بالك، الطوموبيل وراك
red balek, tomobil wrak
“Watch out, the car is behind you.”
