yakhwi يخوي
Algerian Darja · verb
“yakhwi” (يخوي) is a verb in Algerian Darja meaning to empty (a container).
Meanings
- to empty (a container)
- to vacate, clear out a place
Usage
Ykhwi is the imperfect of the verb khwa, "to empty". It is used for a container, a room, a pocket or a tank: khwi el kass ("empty the glass"), ykhwi edar ("he empties the house"). The related adjective is khawi, "empty". Online, the Arabic spelling يخوي very often corresponds to ya khouya, "my brother", written without a space. That is a form of address and not the verb: you need to rely on context to tell them apart. The register is common and neutral.
