The tone is familiar and can be curt. The verb is also used in the sense of passing or crossing: yekhti khatwa, "to take a step", or not walking past a place. Its synonyms are ybe33ed and ygil. Note that this verb has nothing to do with "to make a mistake", which is ghlet in darja.
