Algerian Darja · verb

Meanings

  1. to act (a role), to shoot a film
  2. to put on an act, to fake

Usage

Ytourni (infinitive tourna, "he shot/acted") is a loanword adapted from French "tourner". It means first of all to act in a series or film, or to shoot one: "ytourni f mosalsal" (he acts in a TV series). By extension, it means to put on an act: to exaggerate, fake, play-act to get attention. It is often used mockingly about someone who overdoes it, like a footballer who dives. It is conjugated like an ordinary dialectal verb: ntourni, ttourni, ytourniw. Not to be confused with dour (to turn, to go for a walk).
