Moroccan Darija · adjective
“3amoudi” (عمودي) is an adjective in Moroccan Darija meaning vertical.
Meanings
- vertical
Usage
3amoudi means "vertical". The word comes from 3amoud, "post, column". It is used in technical or school contexts: geometry, DIY, carpentry, page layout. The feminine is 3amoudiya, and the opposite is ofo9i, "horizontal". In everyday language, a gesture or wa9ef, "standing, upright", is often enough for an object placed vertically. For example, people would say khlliha wa9fa, "leave it standing", rather than use 3amoudi.
Example
حط الخط عمودي ماشي مايل
7ett lkhat 3amoudi machi mayl
“Draw the line vertical, not slanted.”
