3end عند

Moroccan Darija · preposition

“3end” (عند) is a preposition in Moroccan Darija meaning at, with (someone's place).

Meanings

  1. at, with (someone's place)
  2. to have (with suffix pronoun)
  3. from, on behalf of (men 3nd)

Usage

3nd is a very common preposition. Before a person's name, it corresponds to "at the place of" or "to see": sir 3nd tbib, go to the doctor. With a suffix pronoun, it expresses possession, where English uses the verb "to have": 3ndi, I have; 3ndek, you have; ma 3ndich, I don't have. Preceded by men, it means "from" or "on behalf of": men 3nd rebbi, from God, that is, willed by fate. It is not used for a place without a person: one says f ddar, not 3nd ddar.
