3red عرض

Moroccan Darija · verb

“3red” (عرض) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to invite someone.

Meanings

  1. to invite someone
  2. offer, presentation (noun)
  3. width (noun)

Usage

As a verb, 3red takes 3la: 3red 3lia means "he invited me". You often add what you are invited to, for example 3red 3lia ntghda m3ah, "he invited me to have lunch with him". For a meal or a party, it is the most common verb. As a noun, l3erd means a commercial offer (a promotion), a presentation or a show. Pronounced l3ard, it also means width, as opposed to ttoul, length. Context and vowelling tell these uses apart. Note: without 3la, the verb does not naturally mean "to invite".
