7ess حسّ
Moroccan Darija · verb
“7ess” (حسّ) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to feel, to sense.
Meanings
- to feel, to sense
- to empathize, care about someone
Usage
7ess (imperfective y7ess, perfective 7ess or 7sit) means to feel or to sense. It is almost always constructed with b-: "7ess b lberd" (to feel cold), "kan7ess b rasi 3iyan" (I feel tired). "7ess biya" can also mean "put yourself in my place, think of me". To say "to smell" something, do not use 7ess: use "chemm" instead. The noun l7ess, for its part, means noise or voice: "ma kayen 7ta 7ess" (no sound at all).
Example
وا حسّ بيا راعي ليا شوية
wa 7ess biya ra3i liya chwiya
