7rref حرّف

Moroccan Darija · verb

“7rref” (حرّف) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to twist, distort (words).

Meanings

  1. to twist, distort (words)
  2. to falsify (a text)

Usage

7errf, with the middle consonant doubled, means "to distort, twist", especially of words or a text. It is readily used when someone reports badly what you said: 7errfo lklam dyali. It should not be confused with the noun 7erf, without doubling, which refers to a letter of the alphabet or a character. It should also be distinguished from 7erfa, which means "trade, craft". The passive t7errf is used for a text or words that have been altered.

Example

حرّفو الكلام ديالي

7errfo lklam dyali

“They twisted my words.”
