Meanings

  1. propose, suggest

Usage

The verb 9tare7 comes from Standard Arabic but is well integrated into everyday usage, especially in professional and administrative life. It is used in two ways. With 3la and the person, it means "to propose something to someone": "9tare7 3liya…" ("he proposed to me…"). With li, it is used to ask for a suggestion: "9tare7 liya chi 7al". In the imperfect, you say "kan9tare7" and "ki9tare7". The corresponding noun is 9tira7, "the proposal". In a more colloquial register, you also hear "3red 3la", for an invitation, or the French "proposer", which is very frequent.
