anani أناني

Moroccan Darija · adjective

“anani” (أناني) is an adjective in Moroccan Darija meaning selfish.

Meanings

  1. selfish

Usage

Anani describes a person who thinks only of themselves. It agrees in the feminine (ananiya) and the plural (ananiyin). It is used in reproaches (nta anani bzaf, "you are too selfish") and in discussions about romantic or family relationships. The register is neutral but slightly formal; in speech, people also say kayfekker ghir f rasso, "he only thinks of himself". Pitfall: in writing, the same spelling is used for the conjunction anani, "that I" (kanDn anani…, "I think that I…"), which should not be confused with it.
