Usage
Asasi is a loanword from Standard Arabic, well integrated into everyday speech. It is used for what is indispensable or central: hadchi asasi, "it's essential". The feminine is asasiya, the plural asasiyin. In football, an asasi player is a starter, as opposed to a substitute (ihtiyati). In football discussions, it can also describe a key player on whom the team depends. With the article, it is also used as a noun: l'asasi, "the essential, the main thing". This use is close to lmouhim, which is more colloquial.
