Meanings
- original, authentic
- indigenous, native
- my origin
Usage
The word aSli describes an authentic product, as opposed to a counterfeit. For example, "telefon aSli" or "had s-sa3a aSliya". The feminine is aSliya, the plural aSliyin. It is used a lot in trade and in sale ads. It should be distinguished from aSl-i, "my origin", formed from the noun aSl followed by the possessive: "aSli men chamal" means "I am originally from the North". The pronunciation is the same, and only the construction allows you to decide. To describe a person of old stock, aSil is preferred.
