b7ri بحري
Moroccan Darija · adjective
“b7ri” (بحري) is an adjective in Moroccan Darija meaning of the sea, marine.
Meanings
- of the sea, marine
- naval, maritime
Usage
B7ri describes what comes from the sea or relates to it: fish, climate, transport. It agrees in gender: b7ri for the masculine, b7riya for the feminine (l-jiha l-b7riya, "the sea side"). In institutional senses (navy, port, maritime trade), you mostly hear phrasings close to Standard Arabic, for example l-qowwat l-b7riya, "the naval forces". The word is related to b7er, "the sea". Don't confuse it with b7ri used as a noun: to refer to a sailor or fisherman, people rather say b77ar.
Example
هاد الحوت بحري ماشي ديال الواد
had l7out b7ri machi dyal lwad
“This fish comes from the sea, not from the river.”
