bach باش
Moroccan Darija · conjunction
“bach” (باش) is a conjunction in Moroccan Darija meaning in order to, so that.
Meanings
- in order to, so that
- with what, by what
Usage
Bach introduces a purpose and is followed by a verb in the imperfect without the ka- prefix: jit bach nchofek, "I came to see you". It covers both "in order to" and "so that". It also serves as an interrogative meaning "with what" or "by what" (b + ach): bach kat7ess?, "what do you feel?", or bach ghadi tkteb?, "what are you going to write with?". The pitfall is adding ka- after bach in its purpose sense, which is incorrect.
Example
جيت باش نشوفك
jit bach nchofek
“I came to see you.”
