bachar بشر

Moroccan Darija · noun

“bachar” (بشر) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning human being.

Meanings

  1. human being
  2. people, humanity

Usage

Bachar means the human being as a fallible, mortal creature. It is used mainly to excuse a mistake or to point out one's limits: "ana bachar" (I'm only a human being). It is also used collectively for "people" in general. The register is neutral, often with a moral or religious nuance. To refer simply to a specific person, wa7ed or chi wa7ed is more usual. Bnadem is more colloquial and more frequent than bachar in conversation. It should not be confused with bchara (good news).

Example
