banyo بانيو
Moroccan Darija · noun
“banyo” (بانيو) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning bathtub.
Meanings
- bathtub
Usage
This word refers to the bathtub in the bathroom. It is an adapted and common loanword, generally masculine: l-banyo. The plural is banyowat. It is used in expressions such as 3emmer l-banyo, "fill the bathtub", and dkhel l-l-banyo, "get into the bathtub". It should not be confused with the public bath, called hammam, nor with the bathroom itself, called hammam, salle de bain or douch. The trap is to think that banyo means "bath" in general: it does refer to the object.
Example
عمّر البانيو بالما سخون
