bellegh بلّغ

Moroccan Darija · verb

“bellegh” (بلّغ) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to report to the authorities.

Meanings

  1. to report to the authorities
  2. to inform, pass on a message

Usage

Bellegh (imperfect ybellegh) is used mainly to report someone or something to the authorities. It is constructed with 3la or b- before the person concerned: bellegh 3lih lbolis, "he reported him to the police". In a more formal register, it means to pass on a message or greetings, for example bellegh slami, "pass on my greetings". The first sense is very common in crime news and neighbor disputes. Be careful: in speech, b- before a pronoun is often pronounced big or bik.
