Meanings

  1. outside, out

Usage

Berra is the common adverb for "outside". It is used after verbs of motion, as in khrej berra ("go out"), or of location, as in kan berra ("he was outside"). With f, the expression f berra commonly means "abroad": khdam f berra ("he worked abroad"). This is an important notion for the diaspora, often called nas berra. Used alone and in a curt tone, berra! is an order to leave, and quite abrupt. Its opposite is dakhel ("inside"). In arabizi, the doubled consonant is not always written: bra and berra are the same word.
