bezzayed بالزايد

Moroccan Darija · adverb

“bezzayed” (بالزايد) is an adverb in Moroccan Darija meaning too much, excessive.

Meanings

  1. too much, excessive
  2. excessively, overly

Usage

Bezzayed comes from zayed, "extra, additional". It indicates that something goes beyond the limit: klit bezzayed, "I ate too much". It is also used to reproach excessive behavior: rah bezzayed, "that's over the top, he's going too far". The word often carries a critical nuance, unlike bezzaf, which stays neutral. It should not be confused with zayed on its own, which can simply mean "extra" (one more loaf of bread, for example). The register is informal.

Example

ما تحطش الملحة بالزايد فالطاجين.

ma t7ottch l-mel7a bezzayed f t-tajin.

“Don't put too much salt in the tajine.”
