bibasata ببساطة
Moroccan Darija · adverb
“bibasata” (ببساطة) is an adverb in Moroccan Darija meaning simply, just.
Meanings
- simply, just
- easily, without complication
Usage
B basaTa comes from Standard Arabic but has entered everyday darija. It is often placed at the start of a sentence to cut an explanation short: b basaTa, ma bghitch, "simply, I don't want to". It is also used to present something in a simple way: chre7 liya b basaTa, "explain it to me simply". The register is a bit more formal than purely dialectal words like ghir, and it is heard a lot in the media and among educated young people. In writing, it is often shortened to b basata.
Example
ببساطة، ما عنديش الوقت
b basaTa, ma 3endich l-we9t
“Simply, I don't have the time.”
